Blooming pizza bread

Mother deer brought home a loaf of sour dough bread the other day and upon seeing this, I realized that I finally had an opportunity to make a loaf of Blooming pizza bread!

Blooming pizza bread

What is it?

What’s blooming bread? Well, I’m glad you asked!

Blooming bread is when you cut a loaf of bread into a grid pattern so that it looks like a blooming flower!

how to make Blooming pizza bread

Then, to make the loaf even more delicious, you can stuff all sorts of goodness into the cracks before baking it in the oven so that when you eat it, you get to have little bits and pieces of joy with your piece of bread!

It’s like sourdough bread with spinach dip…expect the dip is already in the bread!

If pizza or marinara sauce isn’t your thing,

you can fill your loaf with garlic and butter for garlic bread,

or even go sweet by filling it with chocolate chips and mini marshmallows! Yumm!

pizza bread with ham and cheese

Blooming pizza bread recipe

Ingredients

1 round bread loaf (preferably sourdough)
1/2 cup marinara sauce
1/2 cup diced ham or pepperoni
3/4 cup shredded cheese of choice (we used an Italian 4 cheese blend)
dried herbs, seasonings and spices to taste (chili flakes, oregano, thyme, basil, salt, pepper)

Method

  1. Slice 3/4″ thick vertical strips into your bread loaf. Then, do the same horizontally so that you have a grid pattern cut into your loaf. Make sure you leave at least 1cm of space before hitting the base of your loaf or it won’t hold together.
  2. In a small bowl, mix your marinara sauce, herbs, seasonings and spices together. Using a knife, spread your marinara sauce into the spaces between the squares of bread.
  3. Place your pieces of ham/pepperoni in between the gaps. Make sure you don’t miss any spaces!
  4. Sprinkle your cheese on top of the slices of ham, and on top of the loaf.
  5. Bake your loaf at 375F on a baking sheet for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

This is my kids’ favorite!! I didn’t even put ham or pepperoni in mine and they wolfed it down. Imagine what’ll happen if I make your version!! This is soooo….good, I can definitely vouch for that. Thanks or bringing to FF! 🙂

Perfect appetizer! Or just for me if I choose to eat it myself. I am selfish.

Yes! I love this! The only danger is I’d end up eating the whole loaf to myself and then be stuck on the coach with my food baby for the rest of the night haha!

Thank you for sharing this yummy treat with us at Fiesta Friday 🙂
