Lil’ bun and I were re-watching cloudy with chance of meatballs 2 the other day (it’s an amazing movie by the way, if you haven’t watched it already, do so.) and I was inspired to make some animal shaped buns. So let me introduce you to our bread-imal friends…
We decided to not do a photo by photo recipe post on the dough itself because we just redid the dough from our cookie butter monkey bread recipe but added a tablespoon of cocoa powder to add some chocolate-y flavor. We chose to make that dough again because it was so absolutely AMAZING last time. It doesn’t have any oil or added artificial sugar added into it and it’s one of the softest fluffiest (non-tangzhong method) yeast doughs I’ve ever worked with! Without further ado, here are the Animal shaped buns!
Mr. Porkers the pig
Pup Pup the dachshund hound
Sheepy the ram
Ms. Bun the bunny
Elly the elephant
Beary the bear
Swimmy the turtle
Let rise covered in a warm place for 30 minutes then bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Enjoy their extreme cuteness!
So, there you go, that’s how you make the cutest buns on your block. You can put any filling you want in them but I went with using anko/redbean paste. I hope you try to make these because they’re super fun to make and look at. I’m thinking about doing a dinosaur buns but I’m not too sure if I’m going to do one just yet. If you want a dino-themed post let me know! Anyway, I’m going to go admire how cute these look for a little while longer before they all get consumed by monster brother deer. Toodles!
So cute!
