HoHo Walnut Cake & Mini Taiyaki Food Truck

Hoho taiyaki fish

HoHo Walnut Cake & Mini Taiyaki Food Truck is located just outside Hanin village. They are open Thursday through Sunday from 11am to 8pm. You can often find them at the entrance of the Hanin village with a long line just outside their truck. I LOVE Taiyaki so I’m always on the look out for new spots that serve them. In the Vancouver area you have Stuffies and Snowy Village being more popular locations but there are so many hidden gems with them on North Road!

I’ve seen the HoHo Walnut Cake & Mini Taiyaki Food Truck around but this was this first time trying them out. The treats here are quite affordable and $5 will get you a bag of pastry treats! They offer two types of Korean snacks here. The mini taiyaki that’s stuffed with vanilla custard and the walnut cake which is stuffed with red bean and walnuts. The only downside is they are cash only. With that being said, there’s a bank in the plaza so you can grab some if you don’t have any on hand.

Walnut Cake

The walnut cakes looked like little walnuts and were absolutely delectable! They were filled with red bean paste and chopped walnuts. For $5 you get to have 7 of these little guys! You’d think that’s enough but you’ll regret not buying 15 for $10 instead!

walnut redbean cake

Each little walnut is packed full of the filling and the texture of the cake on the outside is light and fluffy. I usually find red bean to be too sweet but it wasn’t like that at all! The red bean added earthiness and the walnuts added crunchy texture. I’m not sure if the red bean was made in-house but it definitely looked that way.

Mini Taiyaki

These little fish are a joy to eat! They are made with the same pancake like pastry on the outside to surround the soft velvety vanilla custard on the inside. The fish are the same size as the walnut cake and much cuter to look at. They sell for 10 for $5 making them cheaper than the walnut cakes but they are just as delicious.

As you can see, the fish is filled with vanilla custard but not enough for it to be leaking out of the taiyaki. These were super tasty and we’d get them again in a heartbeat. Our only complaint is that the taiyaki fish on the bottom got squished so they didn’t look like fish anymore.
