Yeast free crazy bread

Crazy bread is simply garlic bread sticks that’s dipped in marinara sauce and it’s absolutely delish. Actually I can’t believe I completely forgot about these little delights until a few days ago when I saw a kid in my class have them for lunch and gosh the smell was nostalgic. It’s been FOREVER since I’ve had crazy bread.

As a matter of fact I think the last time I had them was when I made them in home ec class back in high school which was way too long ago. I remember back in elementary school I loved having these because even then I was obsessed with tomato sauce and bread. Unfortunately, as much as she loves her cheesy bread, lil’ bun has yet to have the pleasure of trying these little morsels so I decided to make a quick batch for both her and my sake.

Ingredients:

2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup olive oil
2/3 cup warm water

Topping: 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, 2 teaspoons garlic powder, 1 teaspoon oregano

Marinara sauce for dipping

Baking time!

1. Stir the flour, baking powder, salt, olive oil and warm water together in a large bowl until a dough forms.

2. Roll the dough out with a rolling pin until it’s 1/2 cm thick. Then slice it into 1″ thick slices to create the bread sticks. Brush the bread sticks with olive oil and sprinkle your garlic Parmesan mixture on top.

3. Bake at 350F for 20 – 25 minutes until golden.Munch with a side of marinara sauce

I think that if I am to make these again I’m going to stick with a yeast dough because it allows for a lighter fluffier texture but this recipe isn’t a bad alternative if you’re short on time.

Oh and as I mentioned in the heading, you can also turn this into a recipe for yeast free pizza. All you have to do is roll the dough out and top it with tomato sauce and your pizza toppings instead! The bake time will still be 20 – 25 minutes but I would make sure that if you’re making pizza that all the toppings are cooked beforehand because they may not cook through in the oven especially if you’re using crunchier veggies.
