Vesta Grill

Love barbeque, chicken and all things Korean fusion? Well, this is the perfect place for you! Vesta Grill is located in a small strip mall near Coquitlam center and it took Grayson and I a good 20 minutes to locate the place because it was so hidden! But it really shouldn’t be because this is a place that definitely deserves more attention!

Vesta advertises themselves to be a Korean Western fusion restaurant and to be quite honest, I didn’t really know what that meant at first but upon flipping through the menu a few times, I completely understood what they meant.

I guess if there were sports bars in Korea, this would be the type of food they would serve. In that a majority of their menu was made up of BBQ/deep fried proteins. In other words, this place was definitely NOT vegetarian friendly.

Banchan

As with all Korean restaurants, our order came with banchan which was a dish of pickled radish and a bowl of cabbage salad with spicy mayo.

Vesta seafood cheese chicken grill

We only decided to order one thing because it sounded so intense! This is the Vesta seafood (cheese) chicken grill in all it’s $25.99 glory. It was supposed to come with cheese too but we aren’t huge fans of cheese so I opted to order it without it. Yes, we’re one of those crazy people who don’t like cheese! It also came with Korean rice cakes that were cooked in a peculiar way. I say it was peculiar because I had never had rice cake like this before. It was seared on the outside so there was a bite to it but ooey gooey on the inside! Brilliant texture contrast!

It was sweet!

Anyways, we got to choose between spicy, medium, mild and soy for the sauce and we went with mild. Although we chose mild it wasn’t spicy at all and it was surprisingly sweet. Like really really sweet! I think that was the only downside of this dish. Then again, we ordered it without cheese and having it on there would have helped balance it out. I guess that was our bad. I wish that there was more than a couple of shrimp and mussels in there but not enough to satisfy my seafood cravings.

Now then, enough with the negatives and on to the positives! There was A LOT of perfectly grilled and moist chicken on that hot plate. We were trying to figure out if there was a whole chicken on there or something because that’s how big the pile was! And the pieces of chicken weren’t small either.

Grayson said that he would definitely come back with a few of his guy friends some to just chow down on loads of proteins. And me? Well, I’m not a huge fan of animal proteins so this probably wouldn’t be a frequent place for me to visit but if I ever crave BBQ chicken, I’d come here for sure!
