Hello friends! I was craving Korean food after Grayson and I’s workout the other day but there wasn’t any Korean restaurants in the area so I opted to go to Sushi Giwa since I knew they had a few Korean menu options there. Sushi Giwa probably wouldn’t have the best Korean food out there but I was working with what we had.
Bibimbap
I got the bibimbap because I couldn’t have any of the tofu options on the menu. The rice bowl was $14 which is pricier than some I’ve seen but there was a decent portion of carrot, spinach, cucumber, mushrooms, beef, and rice in the pot. I could have done with more kimchi though because I can’t get enough of that stuff. The rice bowl came with hot sauce on the side so you can still enjoy the dish if you’re not a fan of spicy food. The pot came out sizzling hot which was good because it meant that the rice could get crispy along the edges.
House roll
Grayson ordered the mackerel rice special but there wasn’t enough food on the plate to fill him up so he also ordered a house roll. This was supposed to come with kanpyo (Japanese dried squash) but there was no where in sight! He ordered this roll solely for the kanpyo so he was quite disappointed about that 🙁 The rolls themselves resembled the rolls from the combo in that the rice was too wet and mushy so not a fan of that part…but on the bright side, they were jam packed with filling ingredients
Miso soup
We found it interesting to see that there were tofu puffs in the soup instead of traditional silken tofu. The miso soup was dense in flavor and lil’ bun thought the spoon was really cool!
Salmon and tuna sashimi
Goodness gracious the slices of sashimi here are generous. I swear those piece of salmon could each be split into two! They even included a little rolled salmon sashimi “rose” on the side so really we got much more than the 9 pieces this called for!
Roll combo
Pretty standard california rolls, tuna, cucumber, salmon and avocado makis. I found the rice to be on the mushy and sticky though
Holdom roll
We were disappointed with this roll because it was really just a dynamite roll with cream cheese inside and topped with a HUGE lump of imitation crab on top. We all thought that the imitation crab on top was a “overpowering” because there was just waaaayyy too much of it on top (about 2 tablespoons)…so when we ate the roll all we really tasted was imitation crab + mayo 🙁
