Sasaya

Grayson and I drove by Sasaya the other day and decided that we would try it out. So here we were getting hotpot on a gloomy cloudy chilly day….sounds pretty perfect huh?

Marinated squid

We decided to get a Marinated squid ($6.00) appetizer to start. I had high hopes for this dish but it didn’t meet our expectations. The squid was tough, chewy and way too over cooked. We don’t leave food at the table very often but we did this time because we couldn’t finish it. I think that this dish had potential because it was quite aromatic in the way it was sauteed with basil.

Korean mini hotpot

I got the Korean mini hotpot ($5.50) for my main dish. I thought that the soup had a nice amount of spice to it. There were a few prawns, vermicelli, a slice of tomato, a few leaves of bokchoy, an egg and a few cubes of tofu in it as well.

Seafood tofu hotpot

Grayson decided to get the Seafood tofu hotpot ($7.95) because he’s been on a tofu inkling ever since we went to House of Tofu Soup a few weeks ago. He noted that the tofu wasn’t as silky smooth as he was used to. He wished that the pot could of had more fillings because there wasn’t a lot in there for such a large looking pot, but appreciated that the seafood wasn’t overcooked.

Overall, the food at Sasaya is pretty decent for the price you pay for it since the pricing is on the cheaper side for Korean/Taiwanese hot pot. We couldn’t really complain because you really get what you pay for. The good thing about Sasaya is that there’s street side parking and the restaurant also has free wifi so it makes it a good place to study too!
