Ooleaf Tea Lounge

We are back to Ooleaf Tea Lounge! Ooleaf tea lounge is located in Aberdeen Square and just outside Aberdeen skytrain station.

It’s a cozy little spot with enough seating to have larger groups or quiet company. Their menu is pretty extensive with one of their signature drinks being their Snowteas. Snowteas are teas with a cheese foam on top.

We tried a snowtea on our last visit so we decided to try some of their other drinks today. We ordered a milk tea because that’s usually a good measure of bubble tea spots and a specialty drink, the purple rice red bean yogurt.

Spring oolong milk tea

I like oolong teas but sometimes the flavour is too robust and intense for me so I liked that they had a spring version. The flavour of the tea was light and earthy. Even though the drink looked very light, you could still taste the tea flavour through the milk.

The pearls came with the drink and didn’t cost anything extra. The pearls could have been softer and chewier. I’m not sure if it was because we went later in the day so they didn’t have fresh pearls or what was going on but the texture wasn’t great. With that being said, I’d still come back again and give them another go.

Purple rice redbean yogurt

This was a bit of an adventurous choice for us because we don’t typically branch outside of the milk tea territory. I love purple rice and red bean though so I figured it would be nice to try this out!

Surprisingly, you could really taste the creaminess and sour notes form the yogurt. The purple rice and red bean were blended into the drink so the flavours weren’t very strong. Grayson said that it reminded him of fruity yogurt because the red bean and purple rice added sweetness to the tartness of the yogurt.

We would get this again and saw quite a few people order it while we were there too!

They were promoting their newest tea on the day we went so we decided to try it out since it looked so nice! It’s a soy oolong snow tea. When we asked what it contained, we were told it was Oolong tea mixed with soy milk and topped with cheese foam, soy bean powder and glutinous rice balls. I loved how the glutinous rice balls were so colourful!

Soy oolong snow tea

The drink it self was AMAZING. It was rich from the cheese topping and the soy bean flavour was so strong that it added both nuttiness and earthiness to the drink. The oolong tea was distant in the background and wasn’t very noticeable. We were told that the best way to drink this is to dip the glutinous rice balls into the beverage so that all of them are thoroughly coated with the cheese foam and soy bean powder. They were so good!

Unfortunately, although delicious looking, our drink didn’t look like the photo. The glutinous rice balls were all the same white colour and they were also half the size of the ones in the photo. The drink it self was $7.95 so I can’t help but say I was a little disappointed by this.
