Myung-Ga Mandu

Korean food isn’t something Grayson and I go for very often so when we do get to go for it I get excited and hope that we pick somewhere good to try. We decided to try Myung-Ga Mandu located in Hanin village where H-mart is located on North Road. With such great reviews, we were hoping that our food would be unbelievable! The first thing we noticed about Myung-Ga Mandu was how cold it was. I know it was a colder day but it was super chilly on the inside!

Teokkbokki

I decided to order the Teokkbokki which is spicy rice cakes. The dish was $7 and the portion was definitely disappointing. There were no more than 13 rice cakes on the plate and being that it only costs $3 a package of rice cakes at the store, it was quite the profit they would be making off this plate. I just wish there were more on it. It actually doesn’t look that bad in the photo but, I was unhappy with it. The spicy sauce itself was quite nice. It was spicier than other ones I’ve had before in the past but I didn’t mind it too much. I’d be careful though if you aren’t used to eating spicy food.

Beef bulgolgi

Grayson decided to get the beef bulgolgi. This dish is usually served on a hot plate but here it was served on a wooden dish with rice and salad. This didn’t keep the beef hot for very long so Grayson had to eat it quite quickly. He said that even though it was bulgolgi, the sauce and beef wasn’t too sweet. The cabbage salad had a dressing on it but it was light so it was refreshing.

Dumplings

We were both almost done our meals by the time our pork and vegetable dumplings came. These are carefully made so each one of them looked different. You could definitely tell that they were not made by a machine. Each dumpling wrapper was super thin so you could taste all the juicy filling on the inside. They remained super hot and came with a soy based dipping sauce. I don’t think that they make these in house though because as we were leaving, we saw someone bring in large bags of frozen dumplings. A bit odd since the place was known for dumplings but it is what it is. They were tasty nonetheless so we didn’t mind.
