It is simply a soup that is lightly sweetened with red dates and longan. You can add yellow sugar to the soup to sweeten the soup further but it is not necessary if you find the sweetness to your liking prior to adding it in.

What is Peach Resin?

Peach resin or peach gum is an ingredient I’ve been seeing at Chinese dessert shops lately so I was curious to see what it was. Resin is a thick sticky substance that is produced by some types of trees and is not the same as tree sap. Peach resin comes from Chinese wild peach trees and is used to help relieve stress and thirst which is why it’s primarily consumed in the summer months.

Peach resin doesn’t have much of a flavour to it other than a light sweetness. It has no distinct peach flavour and the texture of it is soft similar to jello.

Preparing Peach Resin

The important thing to know about Peach Resin is that it’s usually purchased dry so you MUST and I mean MUST soak it in cold water for several hours to soften it up before you use it. Sometimes there may be dark flecks in the peach resin as well so you need to make sure you remove it before consumption.

Have you ever used this ingredient before? If not, try it out! You won’t regret it!
