Indochine

Indochine noodle soup

Originally Grayson and I were planning on going for Korean food but the restaurant we wanted to go to was packed and being the super hungry people we were, we decided to opt out of waiting for an hour to be seated. So we got back into the car and simply drove until something caught our eye and Indochine did just that with its HUGE banner and awning.

We didn’t really know what to expect of the Indochine menu going in because while we knew it was going to be a fusion restaurant of some sort. At first I thought it would be a fusion of Indian and Chinese food but it turns out that it was a fusion of Indonesian and a bunch of other Asian cuisines.

Singapore laksa

Rice vermicelli noodles in a spicy seafood coconut curry broth with chicken, prawns, tofu puffs, fish balls, a hardboiled egg and bean sprouts

I hadn’t had laksa in a while so I decided to try it. Plus it was chilly that day and I wanted something warm and cozy to eat. The broth had a strong coconut aroma to it. However, I thought it lacked spice because I didn’t really sense any from it. There were three prawns (yay), but the rest of the toppings were minimal (boo).

Usually this comes with rice noodles but I asked for mung bean thread instead. I like crystal noodles better despite the fact that it makes the dish less traditional. So I can’t really judge based how filling it would be if I ordered it as stated on the menu but this bowl of noodles filled me up just right.

Beef Luc Luc

A vietenamese and French style stir-fried steak cubes in a rich garlic butter soy sauce with tomato fried rice

Grayson says that this is the same thing as “shaken beef” found in Vietnamese restaurants. While he enjoyed the sauce that was added on top of the steak cubes, he said the steak was cooked far too well done. So it ended up being really tough. He didn’t find the tomato rice to be anything special but loved the egg on top. He didn’t feel that the portion was very worth it either since he could have gotten a much bigger plate somewhere else.

Although, you do pay for ambiance and that was definitely on point here.
