Dae Ji

dae ji restaurant

Last weekend Grayson and I went to eat at Dae Ji located in a complex along North Rd. Dae Ji is one of Grayson’s favorite places to visit with his friends but I’ve never been there before. Grayson was skeptical that I would find anything I liked at Dae Ji but turns out, I did because they expanded their menu to include vegetarian options.

Omelette fried rice

I decided to go with the Omelette fried rice. Unlike Japanese omurice, the egg that surrounded the pile of fried rice was very thin and almost crepe-like in texture. The rice had bell peppers, onions, and lots of seasoning to make it flavorful even without the gravy on top.

I only ended up finishing half of mine and had the rest the next day. I did find that the rice was wetter in texture that I would of wanted though. Typically when you eat fried rice there’s a crispiness to it I didn’t find with the one here.

Chicken cutlet curry

Grayson went with the chicken cutlet curry. The curry had potatoes and bell peppers in it. He said that it was similar to Japanese curry but stronger in tomato flavor which you could tell from the darker colour. The chicken cutlet was crispy and held up to the curry sauce that covered it.

This dish only comes with one piece of chicken cutlet so if you are looking for two pieces, it’s best that you go with the chicken cutlet rice or add another piece as a side dish. However, I don’t think it’s necessary because it’s a pretty big portion of food!

Would I come back? Not really because there’s not much to choose from on the menu for me

Would I recommend it? Definitely. It’s cheap eats and perfect paired with a beer
