Book-Kyung Korean Restaurant

Hello friends! It has been the longest time since I’ve gone out for Korean food so the other day when Grayson and I were downtown, we decided to get some. We were looking to try something new and since we’ve tried MDG , Damso and Sura already, we weren’t left with many options. We ended up at Book-Kyung Korean Restaurant. The place had a nice ambiance and we were seated quickly. The Book-Kyung Korean Restaurant had a lot of options to choose from and the restaurant also offers karoke!

Chicken fried rice

Grayson decided to get the chicken fried rice with egg drop soup. What came to the table was quite underwhelming and there wasn’t much to the rice. There was shredded chicken, mushrooms, and mixed veggies. Unfortunately it wasn’t seasoned well and Grayson had to add more seasoning to his rice using what was available at the table. Definitely not impressed with this one.

Jjam bbong

I decided to go with the jjam bbong, the spicy seafood noodle soup. Apparently this is the thing to get here because I saw everyone ordering it. They offer the original version, a version with double the seafood, and non-spicy versions. I thought that this was nice because then people who can’t handle spice can still have it.

The noodles in this dish was interesting. I don’t think it was made from just wheat because the noodles had a chewy texture to it so it may have some potato starch in it. It reminded me of a mix between wheat noodles and sweet potato noodles which was perfect because I love textured noodles!

The soup it self was quite spicy just the way I like it. Not much depth of flavor other than a slight hint of seafood from the frozen seafood mix they add to it. The predominant flavor in the broth was from the chili peppers in the broth. No complaints from me though because it was amazing.

Unlike Grayson I was happy with the portion of my noodles and enjoyed it all thoroughly. I would say that Book-Kyung Korean Restaurant is quite hit and miss when it comes to the menu so stay with the traditional Korean items. Something I saw a lot of people ordering other than the jjam bbong was the jajangmeyon!
