Umaluma dairy-free gelato is a shop located in Chinatown that sells the most amazing, creamy, and delicious dairy-free gelato!
Their gelato is so incredibly smooth and rich that you wouldn’t believe that it’s not made from dairy. They make their nut mylks in house to create a rich texture that leaves you wanting more. The base of their gelato is mostly coconut milk but there is also water and cashews in the mix.
After having my first bite, I was in love. Umaluma’s dairy-free gelato texture was more of a gelato consistency than an ice-cream one for sure. I’ve had dairy-free and vegan ice-creams before in the past but they were never as smooth and silky as these ones. They also did not have a coconut flavour like most dairy-free options even though they used coconut as part of their base.
Dark chocolate truffle gelato
The dark chocolate truffle from Umaluma dairy-free gelato was the most intense dose of chocolate I’ve ever had in my life! The gelato was so rich and chocolaty. It definitely reminded me of a dark chocolate truffle. There was a lot of sweetness but the bitterness of the dark chocolate balanced the flavours out. I was surprised as to how smooth and creamy it was as well.
Vanilla chocolate almond gelato
I liked this one more than the dark chocolate truffle because it had a bit of everything. The vanilla flavour did not taste artificial and you could taste the vanilla bean in it. There were chocolate shavings to add in a hint of chocolate without going overboard and a few chopped almonds to add texture. Loved it!
