Chief, Grayson and I decided to catch up over lunch and since I haven’t had my salad roll fix in a while, we went to Thai’s Saigon Bistro for a bite. The interior was spacious and everything looked newly furnished.
Shrimp salad roll
Shrimp salad roll ($2.95) was what I ordered of course. Nothing out of the ordinary, here. I appreciated that they de-veined the shrimp. It’s a small touch, but hey, no one wants to eat shrimp waste okay.
Lemongrass chicken on broken rice
Chief also noted that the lemongrass was herb-a-licious. I’ve never seen broken rice before so I just sat across from them bemusing myself at the baby pieces of rice while we tried to figure out the method behind creating such things.
P10
This rice noodle soup came with rare beef slices, tripe, flank and tendon ($6.75).
The amount of meat in the bowl was pretty decent, but we would of preferred a little more tripe and less flank. As for the taste of the pho? It was AMAZING! I mean, I could already smell the aroma from the broth when our pho arrived at our table. If that doesn’t tell you there’s a delicious bowl of pho in front of you, I don’t know what will.
Lemmongrass chicken bahn mi
We wanted something new so we got the lemongrass chicken ($4.25). The thing I like the most about bahn mi sandwiches are the pickled radishes on the inside, except they seemed to be lacking in this sandwich ):
The chicken was nicely charred and juicy but I was disappointed to find that it lacked lemongrass flavor. And the baguette? Well, it was toasted wonderfully and had a nice amount of crunch to it. This bahn mi sandwich really doesn’t compare to the ones I normally get at bahn mi specialty shops but I guess for a place that doesn’t have them as their specialty, it was a pretty decent bite.
Although in my opinion the Bahn mi was just pretty standard…gosh, oh gosh, would I come back to Thai’s Saigon Bistro for the broth for sure. I think I can even imagine how good that oh so wonderful fragrant and aromatic broth tasted right now…okay I’m going to move on before I start salivating and get hungry all over again.
