Ta-Ke Don

Hello Hello! A new Japanese Don shop has opened up in the Mount Pleasant area! It’s called Ta-Ke don and it’s all about making Japanese food quick and convenient. At Ta-Ke Don, you can choose to dine-in at the fast food like restaurant or have your food to go.

They offer a variety of donburi dishes that include vegetarian options and if you’re extra hungry, you can always make it a combo by adding a miso soup and salad to it. If you’re not feeling too hungry, they offer a few salad options as well as appetizers such as chopped tuna salad and fried tofu. I’m not sure if it was because they opened up this summer but they also had a few refreshing specialty fruit based tea drinks to choose from.

If you choose to dine-in, there is a self-serve water station with lemon cucumber water to have with your meal if you don’t decide to get a drink with your meal.

Once you order at the counter, you are given a number and need to wait for your number to be called. Then you can collect your food similar to a fast food restaurant. Something I noticed in the food preparation area was this rice machine. This allows them to ensure that each dish they put out has the appropriate amount of rice. This is beneficial for their food cost and consistency of the food they put out.

Beef bowl

I decided to get the beef bowl. From the looks of it the rice to beef ratio seemed to be heavy on the rice side but everything smelled delicious. The beef was cooked in a sweet almost teriyaki-like sauce and onions so it was fragrant. It didn’t look like there was much beef at first, once everything was mixed together, it was evenly distributed. The portion size was skimp for $10 in my opinion but it was tasty! This was the priciest of their rice bowl options with most of the other choices being around $8.50
