Sushimoto revisit

Sushimoto is one of my favorite places to grab sushi in Burnaby. I honestly don’t know why I don’t come to Sushimoto more often because everything here is so fresh and yummy!

We’ve been here a couple of times before so we’ve tried quite a bit of things on the menu before but we never fail to find new things on the menu to try.

Kitsune udon

A bowl of udon noodles topped with naruto and tempura flakes. Nothing too special, just your standard chewy udon in a basic soy broth.

Tuna and salmon sashimi

The slices of sashimi here aren’t as generous as some of the other Japanese restaurants in Burnaby but it always comes fresh and we love being able to make our own nigiris with our bowl of freebie rice! Who doesn’t like free rice?

Soft shell crab roll

A roll with deep fried sot shell crab, cucumber, and radish with unagi sauce and Japanese mayo. There really could of been bigger pieces of soft shell crab in these rolls. All we could really taste were the cucumbers, rice and the crispy batter that surrounded the tiny itty piece of crab. Disappointing…

Mango california roll

A roll with mango, imitation crab meat and cucumber Tropical twist on the traditional california roll; pretty good and we’d probably order it again.

Sexy wakame roll

A roll with marinated seaweed and topped with spicy sauce. They were quite small and being that there wasn’t a protein in it, we didn’t think that these rolls were worth the price

Chopped scallop roll

As you can see, they were not wrapped very tightly and fell apart very easily. These aren’t as big as the ones you’d normally find at Japanese restaurants in the area but the scallop was fresher tasting than most places.

Star roll

A roll with mango cucumber roll topped with vegetable tempura pancake style and mango sauce. Best roll of the night. Would order again without a second thought. We liked the textural contrast the crispy pumpkin tempura gave the soft roll and the hint of sweetness from the mango was a nice touch.

OnionS roll

A dynamite roll topped with seared salmon, sliced onion and unagi sauce We liked the aburi twist this roll had since the salmon on top was seared. The raw onion slices on top added a pop of flavor without overpowering the roll. The second favorite of the night.

Would I come back?

Yes but will stick to ordering the sashimi and specialty rolls since we didn’t think the regular rolls were worth the price
