Snow Angel Cafe is a Korean Cafe located along Dawson Street by Gilmore Skytrain Station. Snow Angel Cafe specializes in paninis, croissant sandwiches, chiffon cake, cheese cakes, coffee, tea and bingsu (Korean shaved ice). The cafe has a few tables for seating and a small counter at the entrance with a pastry case for ordering food items.
Snow Angel Cafe usually offers Korean bingsu shaved ice as well but they are not offering it at the moment. Their bingsu flavours are unique with specialty aspects that you can’t find anywhere else. I can’t wait for it to go back on the menu!
Besides their gorgeous looking bingsu, the cafe also specializes in paninis and croissants. Their croissants are made in house using golden brown flaky pastry and are such a delight to look at even from the pastry case. If you’re looking for something more unique than a sandwich, I suggest the angel croissant!
One of my favourite things about this cafe is that they make everything fresh in house! Cakes are made in small batches so they aren’t kept in the fridge for too long to ensure quality of flavour. They are known for their roll cakes, earl grey toffee cake and mocha cake but also offer chiffon cakes and cheese cakes.
Their cakes are reasonably priced and you can even pre-order them. The roll cakes are offered at $26,. Chiffon cakes are around $17 for 4″ and $30 for 6″. The mocha/strawberry/blueberry 8″ cakes are $45. If their standard sizes don’t meet your needs, they also make custom cakes to order!
Yuzu chiffon cake
I decided to order the yuzu chiffon cake because it’s such a unique flavour for a cake! The chiffon cakes typically have a hole in the middle but I asked if they could fill it in and they kindly agreed to do so for me. I love how simple the cake looks from the outside. Lightly coated with yuzu whipped cream and delicately adorned on the top with dollops of cream and pieces of yuzu.
The cake had 3 layers of fluffy chiffon cake with yuzu flavoured whipped cream in between each layer. The citrus notes of the yuzu came through in the whipped cream and we appreciated the brightness it added. We were surprised to find that the layers of cake wasn’t yuzu flavoured. We thought it would add another element to the cake. With that being said, the cake was already so strong with yuzu flavour from the whipped cream that we didn’t mind. Overall, this cake was absolutely delicious and we would definitely order from them again soon!
