Salty’s lobster shack pop-up at The Portside

Hello friends! I was invited to the Salty’s lobster shack pop-up opening and The Portside’s 7th anniversary party last weekend. The whole Salty’s lobster shack event was a blast and I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

We were greeted with champagne when we walked in which was awesome. I’m not much of a drinker but I don’t mind having some when I’m at an event. Nat, Kamila and Grayson indulged in a couple of glasses as well.

Before we decided to look for a table, we decided to stop by the social media photo set-up. They had a poster in the background with photos of all the items on the Salty’s Lobster Shack menu.

They also made each of the items so you could take photos of them. There were lobster rolls, grilled cheese sandwiches, lobster bisque and lobster bites! Unfortunately the lighting wasn’t ideal but they set up a lamp later on in the evening so people could get better shots of the food.

Lobster grilled cheese

Salty’s lobster shack offers two different types of grilled cheese sandwiches. One with crab meat and the other with lobster. Both sandwiches are served with crispy potato chips to add crunch.

We had the opportunity to try the lobster grilled cheese sandwiches at the event and were pleasantly surprised! It was as though they chopped up the filling you would find in a lobster roll and put it into a grilled cheese sandwich!

The filling was rich and creamy with chunks of lobster speckled in between. The exterior of the sandwich was golden brown and crispy from the grill but it didn’t hold up to the warm saucy lobster filling. Depending on the bite, sometimes the sandwich would be on the soft side which I wasn’t a fan of but Grayson loved it!

Lobster bites

The other item we were able to try were the lobster bites. The lobster bites were presented on large platters and I can only imagine the number of lobsters and baguettes they went through that night!

Each round of baguette was topped with chunks of lobster seasoned with sauce and herbs. I loved how they kept the pieces of lobster on the large side so you could really tell they put lobster on there! They would have been even better if they toasted the baguette rounds first because the lobster made the bread a bit too wet for my liking.

We were given the chance to try their lobster bisque as well and this was my favorite item of the night. The bisque was rich and creamy but you could still taste the lobster in it. It also had a few pieces of lobster in it which made it all the more delicious!

The Salty’s lobster shack event wrapped up around 6:30pm but we still wanted to hang out so we decided to order some items off the Portside menu since we were already there.

Margarita

Nat decided to get me a Margarita because I had never had one before and the ones I’ve seen are usually blended. I think I prefer it done this way though because I’m not a fan of slushes. The Margarita was strong in tequila and lime flavor. It was like drinking an alcoholic lemonade without the sugar!

“Buck a Shuck”

Since it was Friday, The Portside was having their “Buck a Shuck” promotion. Their oysters are $1 each until they run out. The oysters are shucked in the dining area which I found pretty cool. I have never seen this before since they usually they shuck oysters in the kitchen when you go to a restaurant. I’m not a big fan of oysters but Nat decided to order a bunch so I decided to try one.

These oysters weren’t like any I’ve had before. They had a clean freshness to them instead of an oceany flavor. I liked them much better this way and I liked putting the sauce and horseradish on them too! Be careful though because the horseradish here was spicy and it got me burning up!

All in all, we loved the event, food and company at the event. The Portside has a great atmosphere because not only do they have tables to dine at but they also have a stage for guest musicians with a dance floor in front of it! Having Salty’s Lobster Shack there as well, takes the pub to a whole new level and I can’t wait to go back again!
