Pho Phu Thinh

Pho Phu Thinh hot and sour noodle

Pho Phu Thinh is located in a complex just behind Coquitlam Centre. The best part about it is that there is a large parking lot so there is no need to worry about where to park.

Their menu is pretty standard as far as Vietnamese restaurants go. You have your beef noodle soup, specialty noodle soups, vermicelli bowls, and broken rice. At first glance we both thought that the price points are higher than what you would find at Vietnamese restaurants in Burnaby and Vancouver.

Hot and sour seafood noodle soup

I decided to go with the small size of the hot and sour seafood noodle soup. While this was a small size, I definitely thought that the portion of noodles was smaller than the amount I would get for a small size elsewhere which was disappointing because it came at a higher price point than most places I’ve been to. The soup was bland and didn’t have any hot or sour notes to it. The seafood was a fish ball, a few shrimps and a couple pieces of squid. Needless to say, I was not very impressed with what I received.

Flank and rare beef noodle soup

Grayson decided to go with the large flank and rare beef noodle soup. As you can see, even though it was a large size, it didn’t look like there was much to the bowl of noodles. Grayson said that he definitely expected more but he said that the broth had savoury notes to it. As for the meat, he ordered rare beef but it seemed to have more flank in it than beef slices. So unfortunately, he wasn’t much of a fan either.

The pho here was disappointing and even though we liked the location, I don’t think we will be coming back any time soon especially when there are so many better options in Vancouver at much better price points.
