18 cart noodle

Cart noodle is a popular Hong Kong dish that’s often sold on the street because it’s quick, easy to make. 18 cart noodle brings this tradition to Richmond.

The menu at 18 cart noodle is pretty straight forward. They offer 3 different price points for their noodles and this is based on how many toppings you have on your noodles. First you pick your noodles, then the sauce that comes with it and then your toppings.

If just ordering the noodles isn’t enough for you, you can also add on snacks from their menu.

Curry fish balls

This is one of Grayson’s favorite snacks to get at a Hong Kong restaurant. These fish balls had a good amount of bounce to them so we knew that it wasn’t heavy on the flour. The curry itself wasn’t spicy but had enough flavor for you to identify the seasonings in it.

The portion of noodles is what you would expect at the price point that each bowl is at. I decided to get my noodles with the vermicelli, curry sauce, wontons and egg. There wasn’t much curry sauce on the noodles but the flavor was prominent throughout the bowl of noodles. I was disappointed to see that there were only two wontons in the bowl since I expected more but I guess I shouldn’t expect too much from a $7 bowl of noodles.

While the two of us enjoyed the ambiance, food and the uniqueness of the restaurant, we were not a fan of the service. It took 40 minutes for us to get our bowls of noodles and I wouldn’t say that it was a complicated dish to prepare. I’m not sure why it took so long for our food to come out but it definitely discouraged us from wanting to come back.
