Pho Boi

Last week, Grayson and I were supposed to go out for Vietnamese food but we ended up going somewhere else. So this week we decided to go to Pho Boi for some cheap and warm pho.

Hot and sour seafood noodle soup

I decided to get a bowl of pho because it was about time I satisfied my craving for it. Since I’m not a fan of red meats, I decided to get the hot and sour seafood noodle soup ($9.45). This noodle bowl only came in one size. I think the portion was the same as a “large” bowl.

At first I was disappointed with my noodles because all it looked like was a bowl with lettuce and tomato. When I dug deeper into the bowl I happily found 3 shrimps, some squid, 2 fish balls and 3 pieces of imitation crab. The broth itself wasn’t spicy and there was no depth of flavor to it either which left me quite disappointed. I’ve had better seafood pho in my day like the one from broken rice, but, my craving was satisfied so I wasn’t complaining.

Grayson isn’t much of a noodle soup person and he usually gets lemongrass chicken broken rice. However, he’s been trying to try new things lately so he adventurously got the grilled top round steak slices and spring roll ($11.25). He said that he wasn’t expecting a tower of rice so that was quite the surprise but he said that the steak was cooked too “well” and was quite tough to chew.

The soup it came with is what he calls “msg soup”. It was salt-ily delicious in all the wrong ways….except he finished the whole bowl anyways because it tasted good. The spring roll was very crispy on the outside and went well with the dipping sauce.

Neither of us weren’t too impressed with our meals or the atmosphere of the restaurant and won’t be anticipating to come back to Pho Boi anytime soon.
