The last time Grayson and I went for Chinese food was at Old Xians a few months ago! But one cold sick February night, things changed. I told Grayson I wanted to go for noodle soup for dinner because we were both sick. So we went to the infamous Peaceful restaurant. I say infamous because it was on Food Network and this restaurant has been sprouting up all over the place. I think they have 3 or 4 Peaceful restaurant locations now?
Even though it was quite late by the time we got there, neither of us were hungry to really have anything so we got dumplings and a beef noodle soup to share.
Pork dumplings
The pork dumplings were $7.98 for 10. So about a dollar each. They weren’t as big as I imagined them to be but they were sooo juicy on the inside. When you bit into it, they were dripping as though it was a soup dumpling. Writing about this reminds me of Din Tai Fung soup dumplings now. I’m not much of a dumpling fan but I’d definitely have a whole plate of these no questions asked!
Beef noodle soup
This was nothing like the ones you’d find at a Taiwanese restaurant. The soup was much clearer and as Grayson calls it, had the “MSG” taste. I always tell him I can’t identify what MSG tastes like but he says it tastes “umami.” I then tell him that he’s just trying to make it sound fancy using foodie vocabulary.
The soup didn’t have much flavor to it and we were surprised that the beef was sliced so thinly. I was happy about the amount of spinach and beansprouts there were in it though. Grayson was disappointed he forgot to ask for knife noodles so we ended up getting the handpulled ones by default.
