Old Street has been a Taiwanese restaurant that Grayson and I have been wanted to try to for a while now. Old Street opened a few months ago across from Metrotown and they also have a location in Lansdowne mall.
What differentiates Old Street from all the other Taiwanese restaurants in the area is that they focus on traditional Taiwanese noodle and rice dishes as well as street food items.

I like how their menu offers a variety of traditional Taiwanese snacks because having lived there for a year, I missed having some of those things because you can’t find much of it at other Taiwanese restaurants.
A unique feature they have here is the Chinese Crepe. It’s made with a base of flour or bean flour. An egg is then cracked on top and you can choose from a variety of fillings to add in as well. It is then folded into a signature square shape before being eaten.
They also offer a variety of desserts!
Fried chicken leg with rice
The fried chicken leg with rice came with a plastic glove to eat the chicken leg with which was very interesting. The chicken was deep fried in a way that Grayson never had before because they pretty much dropped it right in the fryer to cook. The skin was golden brown and crispy which helped maintain all the juices on the inside.
Grayson was surprised that the rice was topped with meat sauce because typically this dish comes with white rice. He liked how the rice was flavoured instead of being plain because it added another element to the dish.
Hot and sour noodles
The hot and sour noodles came with sweet potato noodles, roasted peanuts, cilantro and a bit of ground meat. I was surprised that there was actually ground meat in there because usually all you get are noodles and a few peanuts!
Even though there was plenty of chili oil on top, the broth wasn’t very spicy. It had a mild heat to it in the background but it had more of a tomato flavour oddly enough. I’d definitely have this again, I just wish there was an option to add more protein to it!
We can’t wait to be back so we can try out some of their street food!
