Milk and Sugar cafe

Hello friends! If you’re a bubble tea lower and on a budget, you’ll love Milk and Sugar cafe. Most of their bubble tea options are around $4 for a large size which is pretty cheap as far as it goes for bubble tea in Vancouver.

Milk and Sugar cafe also offers more decadent options with cheesecake and ice-cream at about $5-6. If this still seems like a lot to you, don’t worry because they also offer weekly specials at $3 for a small and $3.74 for large. It really can’t get any better than that.

Curry fish balls

Since we came after work, Grayson wanted to have a snack so he got the curry fishballs for $2.99. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by these because they were the good kind of curry fish ball. By that I mean that they were “bouncy” in texture and had a bite to them. You could really taste fish instead of just flour and fillers. The not so good part was the sauce. It definitely didn’t taste like curry and was more confusing than anything because we couldn’t tell what it was. Grayson said it was beef sauce but I wasn’t too sure.

Last week Grayson and I discovered Bambu, a Vietnamese inspired bubble tea cafe. What surprised us during our visit there was that they offered free toppings. Milk and Sugar does something similar and allows you to choose one free topping out of pearls, sago, rainbow jellies, and clear jellies. You can choose other toppings too but those will cost you an extra $0.50.

Red date and longan tea

Grayson decided to get the red date and longan tea. He said it was too sweet for his liking and preferred the one from Bobacabana.

Jasmine green milk and grass jelly

I decided to get the jasmine green milk tea with grass jelly because it was on special that day. Normally I wouldn’t be a fan of them not shaking it in ice before pouring it into the cup but it was a cold day so I didn’t mind having the drink warm. I was surprised that the milk tea was so strong in jasmine tea flavor and the grass jelly added herbal notes. At first I wasn’t sure about how I would feel about it but after tasting it a few times, I would get this again.

Quick bites:

  1. Cheap weekly specials
  2. Lots of variety including drinks with a cheesecake or ice-cream base
  3. Not a place to study because it is a small cafe and gets stuffy quick

  1. Great review again, I just do not consider this as a healthy choice. Keep up the good work Cynthia.

    1. Hi Anton, I think anything is okay as long as it’s not being consumed all the time. Balanced is the way to go in my opinion but to each their own of course.
