Marulilu Cafe

Woohoo girly date with Raven again and this time we ended up at Marulilu Cafe! I’ve been wanting to go here for a while now so I was super glad when she said that she wanted to go too! Marulilu is a Japanese cafe that offers both Japanese and Western inspired menu items.

Even though they had most of their menu items written on their menu boards, they also offered written menus which was awesome because reading off a board isn’t the most comfortable thing to do.

Japanese breakfast set

I decided to order the Japanese breakfast set ($6.99) for brunch and it was yummlicious! It came with an omelette, salmon, miso soup, rice and a choice of tofu or natto. I don’t think I’ve had so many variations of protein at once but I liked it so much that I almost didn’t mind the lack of veggies. The egg was cooked perfectly and was still moist on the inside and the same goes for the salmon. The tofu was served cold and is supposed to be eaten with the soy sauce. I’ve never had tofu this way but I actually quite enjoyed it.

Sukiyaki don

Raven ordered the beef sukiyaki don ($9.95) and said that it was very mushroom-ful. She said that the beef was cooked well and didn’t taste dry at all. Although Raven enjoyed the first half of her meal fine, she said that it got pretty salty after a while. If she were to have this again she would probably make sure she mixes everything thoroughly before munching.

On another visit….

Lavender latte

Since it was tea time, I decided to get a lavender latte. I haven’t had a latte in a while so I just had to get one plus, I’ve seen lavender lattes all over the place this year and figured that I should finally try one. The latte had a good layer of foam on top and had a lovely lavender aroma to it. However, I should note that if you’re not used to the flavor of lavender, you might think it tastes and smells like soap like Grayson did but I thought it was divine.

Omurice

Grayson’s not big on lattes or sweet treats so he opted to get an omurice instead. He’s never had omurice before but he fell in love with it right away. I didn’t take a photo of the inside but under the delicious blanket of cheese and egg, lies a bed of fried rice that has been seasoned with tomato paste instead of soy sauce. Even though he loved the taste of it, he thought that the portion size could of been a little more generous. Normally I disagree with him on these things but I have to agree with him on this one because I’m sure that even I wouldn’t be full off this ): I asked a few friends who have been here before about this as well and they said that they felt the same.
