L’otus Cake Boutique is a specialty Japanese style cake shop with a location in Richmond and Burnaby. In addition to their cake offerings, they also serve tea drinks and delicious gelato! On the day we visited, they were not offering any tea or gelato items so we chose from their cake selections.
L’otus Cake Boutique is known for their crepe cakes. The first thing we smelled when we entered the bakery was durian! We didn’t mind the smell of durian but if you are, you might not be a fan of it. They offer a variety of flavours of crepe cakes including durian, rose lychee, blue earl grey, creme brulee, and dark chocolate. Each crepe cake is about $9.50 a slice.
They also had one of my favourite cakes, roll cakes! Each roll cake is $35 and they have vanilla, strawberry and matcha flavours. If you don’t want to commit to buying a whole cake, you can buy them for $6.5 a slice.
Matcha red bean cheesecake
We decided to get the double layered matcha red bean cheesecake. This cheesecake has a fluffy matcha cheesecake top layer with a denser red bean cheesecake bottom. The cake is held together with a matcha cookie base. This matcha red bean cheesecake was not very sweet which we both appreciated.
Grayson and I loved how there was a contrast of flavours and textures between the two layers of cheesecake. The matcha layer was smooth, creamy and packed full of deep green tea flavour. Even though there was lots of matcha flavour, it wasn’t bitter. The red bean cheesecake base was more of a traditional NY style cheesecake with red beans in it. It was firmer in texture and almost as delicious as the matcha layer. The cake here was definitely comparable to the one we enjoyed at Tsujiri.
