Milk Tea Ice Cream Bars: Which brand is best?

I-Mei pearl milk tea icecream bar

Over the last few days, I’ve had my fair share of Brown Sugar Tapioca Bars. They were so amazingly delicious that I had to try out the Pearl Milk Tea Ice Cream Bars to let you know if they are worth the purchase! I got two types of milk tea bars. The ones from I-Mei are milk tea flavour and the ones from Shang Yuan are oolong tea flavoured.

I couldn’t find any other brands with tea flavoured tapioca dessert bars so if you know of any, please let me know in the comments below!

I-Mei Pearl Milk Tea Ice Bar

Flavour

This ice bar was two-toned! It had a plain white portion that tasted like milk and the other portion tasted like the tea. The bar’s sweetness level was similar to vanilla ice cream and the parts with the tea had floral notes to it. I liked how the bar distributed both flavours of ice cream throughout the bar so you got some of both flavours in each bite.

Tapioca pearls

What I found interesting about this bar is that there were little pieces of tapioca throughout the bar as well as whole pearls throughout it. This gave the ice cream bar lots of different textures because they tapioca was on firm side but still slightly chewy. The texture reminded me of peach resin or a skinless grape!

Flavour

Similarly to the one from I-Mei, this ice cream bar was also two toned. However, instead of being divided in flavours vertically, it’s divided horizontally. I didn’t like this as much because you weren’t able to get both flavours at once. Instead you had to work your way through the milk portion before you get to the oolong tea. I thought that the tea flavour was stronger in this one though because it looked like there were actual tea leaves in it.

Tapioca pearls

The tapioca pearls in this ice cream bar didn’t have very much chew to it. They were slightly firmer than the ones from I-Mei and strangely had a coconut jelly-like texture. The pearls were also evenly distributed throughout the bar.

And the winner is…

The I-Mei Pearl Milk Tea Ice Cream Bars by a small margin for the even distribution of milk and tea flavours of ice cream as well as the unique blend of tapioca throughout the bar!
