Light brownies (clean eats)

I’ve never been much of a chocoholic or sweets person but every so often…my sweet tooth cravings gets to me and BEFORE I get myself a real brownie. I always try to satisfy myself in a cleaner way first. Well, not that I don’t let myself have treats but I like to make healthier treats sometimes. These Light brownies were the perfect alternative for me!

Light brownies

Anyways, these Light brownies are protein packed because they main ingredient in them are eggs! And because of that, they’re fluffy and souffle-like in texture instead of fudgey like your typical brownies. I don’t really mind though because I’ve always liked lighter desserts anyways. Plus, you can’t complain too much if they only weigh in at about 40 calories a piece instead of 300!

Low calorie brownies

Simple. Clean. Ingredients.

4 eggs separated
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
3 tablespoons honey (or more if you like it sweeter)
dash of vanilla

Separate your eggs and whip up your egg whites until they reach stiff peaks. Whisk your cocoa, honey and egg yolks together in a small bowl. Fold your egg yolk mixture into the egg whites and then pour the mixture into a baking pan. Bake at 350F for 15 – 20 minutes until the edges start coming away from the sides

Yum nom nom! I can’t get enough of these and I can’t wait to get on my second batch! I think I”m going to try making them with matcha powder or peanut flour (PB2) instead of cocoa this time though and see how that turns out!

  1. Hi, I’ve tried this recipe, but it came out awful! 🙁 It didn’t taste good at all, which dissapointed me the most. It tasted a bit like eggs and cocoa powder. Really disgusting!..
But I wasn’t even able to cut it into those squares. It was almost like it wasn’t baked at all, even though I gave it more time in the oven! And yes, I do know a brownie is kind of “unbaked” like, but this was awful… 🙁

when do you put in the vanilla and is it vanilla extract?

    1. You can add it in when you add in toe cocoa powder

  3. Mine turned out perfectly. As an added step, I whipped my yolks pretty hard until they were light in color. Then I added the honey and vanilla. When I combined the whites and the yolk mixture, gently folding the two together, I added 1 oz of organic cocoa nibs (instead of chocolate chips) for a little crunch. Delicious.

I tried a 2nd batch, replacing the cocoa powder with peanut flour and they were even better!

Awh I’m so glad they turned out delicious for you! You adding powdered peanut butter is a stroke of genius I must try it sometime!

  4. These light brownies turned really great, and sooo light that I eat almost half ..it’s way too many calories but at least my husband arrived in time to save me 🙂 He confirmed that these brownies are awesome. I used stand mixer for the eggs, and it made the deal cause it turned fluffy, airy, divine. I also made a little change, instead of two tablespoons of cacao I used one and half cacao and half of carob. Next time I’ll use some orange zest to add some other flavor that goes well with cacao.
Thanks for the recipe, this one certainly goes on my holiday to do list! Need to loose some kg without giving up on sweets 🙂

    1. So happy you enjoyed them 🙂 Healthy treats are the best!
