La Taqueria

La Taqueria is a taco shop that I’ve been wanting to go to ever since I saw a segment about it on food network. La Taqueria have both meat and veggie options for their tacos, which I thought, was awesome. The meat ones were $2.50 each or 4 for $9.50, and the veggie ones were $2.00 or 4 for $7.00. Each of their tacos come with two small soft corn tortillas, with a WHOLE LOT OF DELICIOUS FILLING on top.

Since there was so much filling on each one, I decided to separate each full taco into two smaller ones by placing half the filling onto the other tortilla it came with. So instead of having 1 of each taco and enjoying it just once, I got to munch each one twice! (:

I decided to try three veggie tacos because I assumed I could only eat three of them and none of the meat ones really sounded all that appealing for a veggie fan like me. My friend ended up getting me a fish taco without my knowledge too though, because they figured that I should finally try a fish taco.

Housemade sauces

Oh, I almost forgot, La Taqueria has this little condiment stand with pickled onions in one bowl and pickled jalpenos/carrots/cauliflower in the other. They also have 4 types of salsa for you to choose from to put on your tacos, each one made with a different type of pepper. I only tried the mild and medium ones because I wasn’t feeling daring enough to try the habanero.

Anyway, here’s what I thought about what I got…going counter clockwise from the one on the left

TINGA DE HONGOS

TINGA DE HONGOS

sautéed fresh mushrooms in spicy chipotle sauce

I thought this taco was super yums! It was chipotle heat but mushroomy at the same time so it was perfectly spiced just so good! This one was my favorite out of all of them

RAJAS CON CREMA

roasted poblano peppers with creamed corn, sour cream & mexican cheese

This one was my least favorite out of all the veggie ones. If you like creamed corn, this is the one to pick though. I liked how the sour cream and sweetness of the corn mellowed out the poblano heat as well. I gave my friend one of my self made mini tacos so they could try it, and they weren’t a huge fan of it either because they said there was a strange after taste to it.

DE PICADILLO

sautéed ground tofu in chin-chin’s secret recipe

I couldn’t taste any tofu in it at all, so if you’re a meat eater, and feeling like taking on a veggie protein, this is the one to try. I couldn’t tell what the sauce was made up of, but I guess that’s the point, since it is a secret recipe afterall.

By now after having technically 5 tacos, I was already super stuffed, but my friend INSISTED I have the fish taco too so I got myself together and tried it as well. (Going clockwise from the left)

DE PICADILLO

PESCADO

zarandeado fish with chipotle mayo, radish and pepitas

As my first ever official fish taco, I had high hopes for this one, except it was a bit of a let down. The fish was a little too much on the dry side for me and the radish didn’t help with it much either. For my second one I added some pickled onion and salsa verde on it so it was a little better.

My friend got the ASADA (grilled ‘AAA’ flank beef), POLLO CON MOLE (chicken with chocolate mole sauce) and TINGA DE POLLO (chicken with chorizo in a chipotle tomato sauce, topped with mexican cheese + sour cream), and  and thought they were all excellent as well.
