Kung Fu Tea

Apparently I can’t go a week without bubble tea so here we are in Chicago Chinatown looking for some bubble tea. Lucky for us, we stumbled across a plaza that had 6 different spots to choose from! In the end we decided to go with Kung Fu tea because not only was it a bubble tea chain we’ve heard of before but it was also one of the more reasonably priced ones. Plus it was pouring rain so Kung Fu Tea was a great place to hide out for a while.

They offer your typical milk tea, fruit tea, slush, milk shakes, and yogurt based options here. We found it interesting that they also offered espresso options for those who aren’t a fan of tea or want an extra caffeine kick. I liked that they had a section on the menu to show you how to order so those who aren’t familiar with ordering the drink could easily navigate their options.

Classic milk tea

I decided to go with the classic kung fu milk tea because I wanted to see how they made it here. Apparently it’s made with their “kung fu method” which really from what I observed meant they put it in a shaker machine to make sure everything is mixed through.

Needless to say, I wasn’t too impressed with that. On the bright side, the pearls were super bouncy and chewy with a light coating of brown sugar syrup which helped add subtle sweetness to my drink.

Would I get it again? Mmm….I’m not so much inclined to because it was a $7 CAD drink and I would never spend that much on it back home but it was good in a pinch!
