Kita no Donburi

Grayson and I have been meaning to come to Kita no Donburi for the longest time. Kita no Donburi is set up similarly to a fast food restaurant at lunch time. You can pay at the front and then find a table to sit at once your food is ready. For dinner service, they do a dine in service where they seat you and take your order at your table. This type of system confused us a little bit because we weren’t really sure what to do once we stepped in the door.

Tuna tataki

To start, we decided to get a tuna tataki ($5.50) appetizer to share. I thought that it was decently priced since it came with four pieces of tuna and a salad. The tuna wasn’t as well prepared as it could have been because the sear wasn’t too good on it but it wasn’t bad for the price it was. Grayson was in love with the perfectly sweet and tangy dressing they had on the salad as well.

Natto veggie don

Since we were already getting tuna tataki, I decided to get the natto veggie don ($7.95) so I get some servings of veggies. I’m actually not a fan of natto because I don’t like the fermented taste of the soybeans but my want for having an egg with my meal took over and I ended up going with the natto.

My don came in a cute wooden bowl and since it was so big, it made mixing everything together very easy which I liked since I really wanted everything coated in raw egg yolk. Yeup, if you’re not a raw egg person…you probably shouldn’t get this one. Anyway, this don came with a hefty portion of rice with it as well. I ended up taking about half of it out because I couldn’t finish it all (that’s how much there was!).

Hambaga donburi

Grayson decided to get the Hambaga donburi ($8.95) because Japanese burger patty was something that he had not tried before. For some reason my don ended up having much more rice than his though and we thought that was a little strange but it wasn’t a huge deal because I just gave him some of mine. The rice was also served so hot that it ended up wilting some of the lettuce leaves! As for the hambaga, he said it was really juicy, moist, flavorful and unlike anything he had ever tried before. He also liked the egg on top because it acted almost like a sauce for the burger 🙂
