Jong Ga Korean Restaurant

Grayson and I wanted Korean the other day and we didn’t know where to go. I suggested we head on over to Burquitlam and just pop in a random place to be spontaneous. After looking at the menu at several restaurants, we decided to settle on Jong Ga Korean restaurant

Even though the menu and the giant photos of the food on the exterior of the restaurant lured us in, the interior was dim.

Pickled garlic cucumbers, marinated potatoes, kimchi, sesame bean sprouts, hot sauce

My favorite out of them all were the cucumbers because the kimchi wasn’t spicy enough for my liking. And of course, Grayson liked the potatoes best. Something that was awesome about this place was that the owner asked us if we wanted free banchan refills! Yes, banchan refills at Korean restaurants are free unless they indicate it so we always ask for some but she offered it to us on her own which I thought was really sweet of her.

I was gearing towards getting sundubu because I literally get that at every Korean restaurant I go to but at the same time I was feeling like having something new so I asked the owner what she recommended. She said that the seafood noodles were good but I said I liked spicy food so I didn’t know if I wanted it since it wasn’t spicy.

She then said that she can make it spicy for me and offered me a side of chili oil, korean hot sauce and siracha hot sauce in case it wasn’t spicy enough for me! How nice of her right?!

This was filled with homemade noodles, assorted veggies and loads of seafood (octopus, squid, mussels, clams)

This bowl of noodle soup was definitely worth the value because unlike most restaurants where they load your bowl up with noodles because they are cheaper than seafood, this one had a equal amount of both. Then since I told her I really liked spicy food, she even chopped up jalpenos and added it to my soup in the kitchen so it had a kick to it!

Marinated chicken on rice

This was rice with sauteed chicken thigh, cabbage, bell peppers, sesame, mushrooms, and beansprouts

Grayson absolutely adored this dish and it’s one of the best Korean dishes he has ever eaten! The chicken marinated well and was full of flavor. Usually when he orders something like this he complains that the chicken is way too dry but he said the chicken he received was juicy full for once! And even though Korean isn’t his favorite cuisine, he said that we can go for it more often now because he found a new love for it (this is definitely good news for me).

  1. The noodles look super yummy! And squid too! I had some from Murak Korean near Metrotown and it definitely did not come with squid and for a higher price too.
