Isami sushi

Hello friends! Grayson and I got tired of going to all the sushi gardens in the Metrotown area and decided to go to Isami sushi for a change. We have been to Isami sushi in the past but it has definitely been a while. Isami sushi is located along Kingsway in the Metro-Pointe plaza.

When we got to the restaurant, it 6pm on a Saturday and the restaurant wasn’t very busy. We thought this was a good sign because it meant that we would get our food quickly right? We’ll see about that but first let’s see what we got to eat.

15 minutes later…

Sauteed scallops

These were cooked well and not tough in the middle which is a good sign that they know what they’re doing. They were supposed to be sauteed in a chili sauce but there was no heat to it. At $1.25 a piece, neither of us would be signing up to get it again but they were pretty good for what they were.

10 minutes later….

Salmon avocado roll

The rice was soft and seasoned well. I hate hard sushi rice so I was very happy with the texture of this one. The avocado was on the raw side so it didn’t hold together well. We were happy with the rolls in general though. The only negative would be that there were only 6 pieces instead of the usual 8.

Negitoro roll

Definitely one of the best negitoro rolls we ever had. The toro was very soft on the inside which was complimented by the brightness of the green onion. We were definitely impressed.

20 mins later…

Sushi combo: This came with 2 tuna and 2 salmon nigiri along with some tuna and cucumber maki. All of the food on the plate was amazing and of the upmost quality. Definitely would have this again. Then again we waited 40 mins for this so it better be good at this point.

We also ordered a negihamachi rolls which came out 10 mins after the sushi combo. We waited for 50 mins total for all our food to arrive. Definitely unacceptable in our books. They didnt’ have enough staff and it was a busy restaurant. The quality of the food was amazing but the wait for the food definitely reminded us why we hadn’t come back for years.

On another visit…

Salmon maki

You know you got good salmon maki when the piece of fish is larger than the amount of rice surrounding it. Now that’s what I call a good salmon rice ratio.

Negihama maki

Grayson usually goes for negitoro but today he decided to switch it up and got negihama instead. He said that it had a lighter flavor than the negitoro he’s used to.

Vegetable roll

It was mostly made up of thinly sliced radish and the carrot wasn’t cut thinly which I found a little odd but other than that it was a pretty standard roll.

Dynamite roll

Grayson said that the shrimp was fried well and it remained crispy.
