Honey walnuts (clean eats)

These are my newest candy substitutes! They’re smoky, nutty, sweet, crunchy and spicy….honey walnuts! Walnuts are awesome because they’re a good fat and they also help your brain function. I remember that little factoid because walnuts look a little like brains so I always remember that they’re food for mine. (:

Honey walnuts

I’ve never been a fan of walnuts on their own because they’re a little too dry for my taste so I usually bake with them to add flavor. However, I’m trying to ease up on the whole baked goods thing because of this whole food challenge of mine this month so I opted to coat them in honey and eat them as a snack instead! But, just because these can be considered “clean,” doesn’t mean that they should be eaten in insane amounts because honey is still a form of sugar and walnuts are high in (good) fats.

Simple. Clean. Ingredients.

1 cup walnuts
1 tablespoon honey/agave
2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon water
1/2 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

GO nuts!

1. Mix all the ingredients in a frying pan and cook it on medium heat for 2 – 3 minutes until they are fully coated in the mixture.

Honey roasted walnuts

2. Transfer the walnuts onto a plate and let them cool.

Chinese Honey walnuts

3. Stir in sesame seeds or munch them as they are!

Sesame glazed walnuts

Make sure that your honey walnuts are cool and no longer sticky to the touch before you store them. If you live in a high humidity or warm place, keep your honey walnuts in the fridge or they will stick together.
