Gongcha Renfrew is one of the newer Gongcha locations in the Vancouver area. The interior of the cafe is spacious and it’s right across from the skytrain station for convenience! I liked how woodsy and clean everything looked on the inside. They have a front counter for ordering items and a side counter for pick-up orders.
Strawberry green tea
This drink at first glace looks amazing. Strawberry green tea arriving in the perfect strawberry red? Yum. Unfortunately, what we received was a different story. The strawberry green tea had an artificial strawberry flavour that tasted almost soap-like. There were hints of green tea but the strawberry flavouring was the more prominent flavour. The pearls on this particular day weren’t very chewy either so this wasn’t a hit for us.
Mung bean fresh milk tea
I love mung beans so I was excited that Gongcha had a new series featuring mung beans! There was a mung bean smoothie, mung bean fresh milk tea and a mung bean dessert with all sorts of toppings. I opted to go for the simplest of the 3, the mung bean fresh milk tea. The drink had a generous scoop of mung bean topping on the bottom. The ratio for the rest of the drink was 1/3 green tea and 2/3 the way up with fresh whole milk. I would have enjoyed more green tea flavour but this drink was a TREAT! The mung bean blended seamlessly with the milk and it was a nostalgic drink reminding me of mung bean dessert soup!
Royal milk tea with pudding
Grayson opted for the Royal Milk Tea with Pudding. He likes the milk tea from Gong cha because of how caramel-y the flavours are and the pudding only amplified it. The milk tea was rich but the black tea still showed through the background. The pudding would was soft and added texture to the drink that made it a delight to drink.
