Estea

estea omurice

Grayson and I have been on a Taiwanese food bender lately and we’ve been going for it quite a bit. We’ve been eating it so often that we weren’t sure where to go anymore. After a good amount of pondering, Grayson said we should go to Estea since we haven’t been back for the longest time. I didn’t really want to go to Estea at first but Grayson convinced me because they changed their menu.

Creamy curry hot pot

Usually Grayson gets a rice dish when we’re here but today, he felt like having something soupy so he got the creamy curry hot pot ($9.50). There was the option to choose which protein it came with (beef, chicken or seafood) and he went with chicken because it sounded like it’d go with curry the best. He said that it had just a bit of heat which was good for him since he doesn’t like spicy food very much. The pot came with fish tofu, imitation crab, tofu, and lots of what he claims to be perfectly cooked chicken.

Sour vegetable with fish hot pot

I had my sour vegetable with fish hot pot as usual and I found it to be not as spicy but it was delish nevertheless so I wasn’t complaining! I always end up getting this one because there’s lots of basa fish fillet inside (yay) , sour vegetables (double yay) and fish tofu which I always end up giving to Grayson because he loves it so much. The pot usually fills me up on it’s own so typically I give half my carb to Grayson to munch on because he usually doesn’t have enough.

Cold noodles with chicken

You can choose the type of noodle you want with your noodles. I ordered it with the thin wheat ones. My noodles came with a side of veggies, chili sauce, sesame sauce and chicken. I was not a fan of the chicken because it looked like it came out of a can. It was all minced up and definitely not appetizing looking. I should have went with the original version instead of the one with chicken.

Omurice with beef stew

This omelette rice was wrapped with an oddly pale looking omelette and the rice came in the form of a mountain instead of a hill so it didn’t have the traditional shape. There wasn’t much of a “stew” on the side and it was mostly made out of onions. He wasn’t satisfied with the portion either. As much as he likes coming to estea, he definitely wasn’t a fan of this and thought the one I had at dae ji was much better.

Chicken dumplings

Grayson also ordered the pork and cabbage dumplings. A few minutes after we placed our order the waitress came back and told us they were out. So we got the chicken dumplings ($6.25) instead. He enjoyed the first few but after a while he got tired of them. He did like the dipping sauce for them quite a bit though.
