cazba restaurant

Hello friends! I tried out a new type of cuisine a couple weeks ago and I’m so excited to share all about it with you all! I would like to think that I’m pretty adventurous when it comes to trying out new types of food but it’s been a while since I’ve really ventured out there. So here’s me trying some Persian cuisine at Cazba restaurant!

Every time we go to Coquitlam Centre, Grayson always gets food from the Cazba stand in the food court so he was excited for us to go to the brick and mortar spot in North Vancouver.

We noticed that there was a Cazba restaurant here the last time we went to Hachiro ramen and have wanted to come by since. They also have a location downtown and are about to open another food court location at Lougheed mall.

The menu is definitely more extensive at the restaurant location in comparison to the food court shop. I liked that we were able to choose from a wide variety of items since the food court shops mostly focus on kebab items.

Bread

Once we were seated, we were given a giant piece of bread. I’ve never had Persian bread before! It was as thin as flat bread with airy-ness to it. It was served with butter and a raw onion. I wasn’t a fan of the onion part so I just had it on it’s own.

Vaziri

Although Grayson always gets the kebabs in Coquitlam, I’ve never had it before so we decided to get The Vaziri which came with a ground beef kebab, a chicken breast kebab, rice and a grilled tomato. The chicken kebab was nice and juicy even though it was chicken breast meat. It had turmeric in the seasoning to give it a nice yellow colour and spices to make it flavourful. The ground meat kebab was not as flavourful in my opinion but just as juicy. One of my favourite parts about the dish was the grilled tomato. It was nicely charred and added a nice smokiness to the dish.

Ghormeh Sabzi

We also decided to try the Ghormeh Sabzi because we wanted to try something new. This was more like a stew made up of herbs, spices, pieces of beef and served with rice. This dish isn’t really for everyone because it was quite herbally in flavour. The meat in it was tender and the beans added heartiness to it. We poured the stew onto the rice and ate it all mixed up but you could also eat it separately if that is what you prefer. I liked the kebab dish better but I was glad to have tried something I never had before.

Although the food was excellent, I did have a small complaint as the table cloths were not very well maintained or clean. It wasn’t the best thing in the world to have food smear on the table cloth that’s going on  your lap!
