Burnaby mountain clubhouse

It was that time of the year again…DINE OUT VANCOUVER! This year we decided to go to Burnaby Mountain Clubhouse because not only did the menu appeal to us but it seemed like a really comfortable place to dine at.

And goodness was our assumption right because the interior of Burnaby mountain clubhouse had a casual lounge feel to it. It felt intimate because of the woodsy decor and lights

When I was making our reservations I requested that I wanted a table by the window and they let me have just that!

The main reason as to why we chose to come to Burnaby mountain clubhouse was because they offered fish as an entree option. Grayson was super excited about the steak offering because he says you can’t really go wrong with that.

Onsen carbonara

I decided to go with the onsen carbonara for my appetizer… The linguine was cooked perfectly al dente and you REALLY can’t go wrong with a soft boiled egg! Oooo…that yolk. <3

Louisiana fried chicken

Grayson decided to go with the Louisiana fried chicken. It came with a jalapeno chutney, parsnip puree and a fraction of a waffle. Although the chutney was jalapeno based, he said that the sweetness of it helped balance out the spice so he didn’t find it overwhelming on his palate.

The waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. As for the chicken? It was fried to golden perfection because it remained moist on the inside. But, the breading came off a little bit as he was cutting into it. No big deal though.

Mahi Mahi

I got the char broiled mahi mahi for my entree and Grayson was absolutely jealous of me for getting it because it looked that delightful. The southern rice pilaf was flavorful and had lots of tomato flavor. Usually I tend to find pilafs a little too salty or moist for me but the one here was perfectly season and the rice was just done. My favorite part of the whole dish was actually the pineapple salsa it came with because it added a nice pop of acidity and brightened everything right up. I wish I could say the same for the fish though because it was quite dry and I wasn’t a big fan of it’s cook.

Steak

As I mentioned earlier, Grayson decided to go with the 8oz steak. He ordered it medium-rare and that’s how it showed up at the table! He said that he only actually ever gets his steak done a perfect medium rare 1/5 times so he was pleasantly surprised when it arrived at the table that way. The steak was juicy, tender and moist on the inside and it had a nice char on the outside as well. I’m sure you can tell already but that yukon potato mash was as creamy as ever.

Chocolate mousse

I was too full at this point to have dessert so I decided to get my dark chocolate mousse to go. Plus, it gave a change for lil’ bun to try some of it as well. Although insanely smooth and creamy, she kept saying that it was too sweet for her…but then she somehow ended up devouring the whole thing. Crushed oreos and all. Soo….I guess it was addicting?

Apple crumble

Grayson decided to get the apple crumble in a jar and it came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top! The apples were perfectly tender and the spices in it reminded me of gingerbread. A little sweet but that’s probably because the ice-cream contributed to part of this.

The only other downside of the dessert was that it didn’t really feel like a crumble because as you can see, there isn’t much crumble topping on there. In fact, it felt more like pieces of granola on top rather than a crumble.

Here’s the outside of the restaurants. The lights up in the trees were so pretty!
