Burnaby mountain clubhouse

For a family dinner, we decided that we would all go to Burnaby Mountain Clubhouse. I’ve been to Burnaby Mountain Clubhouse before in the past for Dineout Vancouver but have yet to try them out on a regular evening.

Here’s the menu for the $25 meal deal. It reminded me of the menu offerings that they have for Dineout Vancouver. I thought that there was quite a bit of variety since they had a beef, lamb, salmon, vegetarian and burger option for the main course.

Root salad

I decided to start with the root salad despite already having a salad for lunch because I can’t get enough of roasted veggies! I liked how there was butternut squash, beets and finger carrots on the plate so everything looked colourful and appetizing.

Under the root veggies was a bed of kale slaw and it came with a hummus aioli. I got my dressing on the side because I don’t like my salad overdressed but I regretted the decision because the hummus was so thick that it was hard to mix in with everything. I’d say that the coconut shrimp salad was the better option out of the two salads but rainbow salads just get to me!

Coconut prawn salad

The coconut prawn salad was a more adventurous choice but a delicious one nevertheless. The coconut shrimps were well-battered and crispy on the outside. She said that the salad wasn’t dressed too heavily and had a nice tang to it. She also liked that there was a variety of textures in there from the crunchy lettuce, edamame and corn.

Lobster burger

For the main, brother deer decided to go for the lobster burger. As you can see, it was quite the tower of food. It was a beef burger topped with a lobster tail and two grilled prawns. Then as though that wasn’t enough food already, it came with a side of fries (or salad).

It was probably at least 12″ high with the skewer and all! The burger had a beef patty and then a lobster tail and two prawns were skewered on top of it! So the burger didn’t have lobster meat inside like one would expect…instead it was a beef burger impaled by a seafood skewer! He ate the seafood first and right after he took it off, you can already see that the “wow factor” has completely disappeared.

Steak burger

Old bean decided to get the steak. The steak was cooked to a wonderful medium rare and stayed juicy on the inside like all good steak should. It came with a nice rich sauce that didn’t overpower the dish. The mashed potatoes and green beans were nice accompaniments to round everything off nicely.

Sockeye salmon

Lil’ bun and I got the sockeye salmon. It was a grilled piece of sockeye on top of a bed of linguine bathed in a crab rose sauce. You couldn’t really taste the crab in the sauce but it was very rich and creamy.

Lil’ bun isn’t usually a salmon person but the taste of the char on the salmon got to her and she ended up loving the plate. It was actually quite the portion too because neither of us finished it. Hurray for having the rest for lunch the next day 🙂

Ice cream waffle

Then last but not least was dessert.

The sugar waffle was topped with a scoop of cookie dough icecream, chocolate sauce and strawberry compote. We all thought that the dessert was far too sweet and I actually ended up eating chunks of sugar that was hiding in my waffle.

Nothing too special or fancy and it was a little too sweet but it was a good end to the night regardless.
