Hello friends! After a few rounds of hit and misses at Boba boy….somehow we are back! Yeah I know, it’s a bit silly of us to do so but we are at the Boba Boy Kerrisdale location and it was the closest bubble tea spot to us at the moment so we decided to give it another go!
Peach oolong tea with taro pearls
Grayson got the peach oolong tea with taro pearls since they were on special that day. Unfortunately, the handmade taro pearls were not very good. We were excited to try them out because we love the taro pearls from Hou Cai Lei, but the ones here were hard and did not have any taro flavor. The tea on the other hand was quite pleasant as the fruity peach undertones added sweetness to the oolong tea.
Matcha red bean latte
I decided to go with the matcha red bean latte because I’ve had it before and knew that it would probably be just as good as the last time I had it at the steveston location. The matcha flavor was prominent and the red bean added a light sweetness to the drink. Instead of getting it with the taro pearls, I got it with the honey dew version. Similarly to the taro pearls, they were quite tough which was disappointing. The flavor of them were pretty fruity which was nice but probably not the best choice to go with a matcha latte.
Boba boy fresh taro latte
On another occasion we went to back to Boba boy Metrotown to try their fresh taro latte. I thought this meant that they had freshly cooked taro that they blend up and put into your drink but nope. I was horrified to find out that they used taro canned in syrup! What shocked me the most was that they stored the tin can of taro in the fridge instead of emptying it into a separate container. There’s risk of the iron and tin dissolving into the food this way let alone the slim chance of getting botulism!
On the bright side, we now have a boba boy bottle which means if we bring it back on our next visit, we can get a free up size of our drink! Although I must say, after this experience I don’t know if we will be back any time soon.
