Thai hang 2

We’ve eaten at the original Thai Hang on Hastings before but we have never been to Thai hang 2. But Mother deer’s friends told her about the 7 courses of beef they offer at Thai hang 2 so we decided to go by on Sunday to try it out!

Thai hang 2: 7 courses of beef ($36)

Blanched beef with vinegar

You got the opportunity to make your own salad rolls with this dish. They gave us more than enough rice paper wraps to use all the beef and veggies which was a good thing. The beef came to our table raw and we got to cook them in a pot of caramelized broth. They didn’t explain how to put this dish together when it arrived, if we didn’t already know how to make salad rolls then we wouldn’t of known how to assemble it.

Then wrap wrap wrap!

Beef with herbal wraps, satay beef wraps, beef tendon

As with the salad rolls, they just dropped off this place and didn’t provide us with any explanations as to what everything was. If I didn’t ask, I wouldn’t of known all three courses were put onto one plate and even then, our server couldn’t tell me which was what.

The beef rolls themselves were juicy on the inside and the marinade was on the sweater side. It was topped with peanuts and ground pork floss

Specialty beef meatball

This was the largest meatball I have ever seen in my life. Unfortunately we all found this meatball dry and we weren’t sure what was on the inside but it was a whole variety of things…as with the other dishes, we wish they explained it.

Beef salad

This salad didn’t come with any dressing on top but they left a few dishes of sauce at the table at the beginning but we just didn’t know which one was for the salad or any of the other dishes for that matter. The beef was on the dry side for this dish and we ended up rolling the salad in our rice paper wraps because we had so many of them left over.

Beef congee

Basic congee with a few pieces of beef in it. Nothing special in particular.

Chinese Beef congee

We didn’t think that the 7 courses of beef was worth $36. However if you want to try a bunch of new dishes, you can give it a go.

Spring roll

Decent spring roll that was jam packed with veggies.

Fish slices with rice noodle in soup

We’ve never seen plain fish pho offered before so we decided to try it. The basa fish fillet pieces in the soup were cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. We were all very happy with how there were so many slices of fish in there and the broth was aromatic. I’m not sure what base it was because there weren’t any servers around to ask but it was not beef based.

Lemon grass chicken and grilled minced pork patty

The lemon grass chicken and pork patty were well seasoned and remained juicy on the inside. I was too busy try to eat everything else and by the time I got to this dish there was nothing left but judging by how fast it disappeared, I’m guessing it was delish!

3 bean dessert

This was a sweet drink with assorted beans on the bottom. The drink is them topped with coconut milk and ice. It was pretty good but hard to get up the straw so a spoon was needed.

We probably wouldn’t be back here, the service was definitely lacking and they didn’t explain any of the dishes to us. We also asked if we could have a bigger table because a lot of our food did not fit on it. But they didn’t let us change tables even though they had 2 large ones available in the corner.
