We went here for dinner after our intense hike up and down the Chief. We made it up to the second peak and back in record time! A short 2.5 hours! Sushi Sen is located in Squamish and offers Japanese dishes including sushi, including specialty rolls, plus beer, wine & sake.
Sushi Sen interior
We were actually planning to come here for lunch but they weren’t open for lunch so that’s why we ended up coming for dinner. The interior of Sushi Sen is decorated with traditional kimonos and they had lots of bar, indoor and patio seating.
Dobinmushi
To start we decided to get a pot of dobinmushi ($6.00) which was a flavorful broth that was served in a teapot and filled with shrimp, white fish and clams.
I liked the purity and depth of flavor the broth. The only bad I can think of about it is that there wasn’t enough of it to go around between the two of us!
Sashimi salad
We also decided to get a sashimi salad ($7.95) to share. It was a green salad topped with tuna, wild salmon, shrimp and crispy wonton sheets with a side of sesame ginger dressing. The sashimi was fresh and we liked how light this salad was.
Beef teriyaki
Grayson was feeling famished after our hike so he decided to get the beef terriyaki don ($8.95). He typically never gets terriyaki but it was one of the only dons they offered so he had to go with it. To his surprise, he actually loved the dish and said that the sauce wasn’t to sweet and the beef was was well prepared as well.
Iki shiso roll
This roll had squid and shiso leaf. I don’t think this roll was worth the price because it was quite expensive for the amount I received. I found the rice to be a little too wet, which ended up making the seaweed soggy and it just wasn’t very appetizing.
Vegetable roll
The other roll I got was the organic vegetable roll ($3.50) that was filled with salad greens, beets, asparagus and avocado. I enjoyed this one more than the ika shiso maki but as with the other roll, I found the rice to be too wet and lacking in seasoning.
