Hello adventurous food friends! I recently got invited to a tasting event at Silk dining lounge where I was able to try a few of their menu items. I was blown away when I first entered the restaurant lounge because the interior looked absolutely amazing.

There was colourful lighting, crystals hanging from the ceiling, gold decals and imported silk lined walls and ceilings. Our host told us that the restaurant took 4 years to complete because the owner, Gary wanted to do everything by hand and import everything from India so that it was done right. The owner is from India and the chef is French trained so the restaurant is a delightful fusion of the two. The two cuisines might sound very different but as we found out from our evening, the two blend together deliciously.

The restaurant has different seating areas depending on who your party is. There is a lounge at the back of the restaurant for those who are looking to have a few drinks with company.

If you’re looking for more of a dining experience, they have tables with booth seats as well as a different area where you can sit cross legged on mats for an alternate experience.

The gorgeous decor doesn’t stop there because even the hallway is decorated with traditional decor and imported silk along the ceiling.

On the way to the bathroom, you pass by the kitchen where you can have a glimpse of the huge spice rack where they have every spice blend you could possibly imagine. All their spices are hand picked, ground by hand and smell absolutely amazing.

Drink menu

I’m not sure if this is their permanent drink menu but it was the one we were given for the night. All the juices and ingredients they use for their drinks are freshly picked each day. You could really tell that everything was fresh because you could smell the zest of the lime and aromatic mint in the air.

The silhouette

This was the drink of the night. Definitely on the fruity side and you couldn’t taste much of the alcohol in it. If you like fruity beverages, this is the one for you. The black raspberry liquor was a fruity twist while the cointreau added notes of bitterness but everything was sweetened up with the agave syrup and orange juice.

Majitos

This was their rendition of the mojito. If you are a fan of lemonade, this would be the drink for you. It was sour and you could definitely taste the alcohol in it. Nat loved this one and had two! She liked that this rendition used rum instead of tequila.

Sangria

I liked that we got to choose if we wanted the sangria with white or red wine. The sangria was a lot sweeter than we thought it would be and Nat found it difficult to finish. Perhaps it was the white wine that added that and it would be different if we got it with the red.

Malai chicken tikka

The chicken is free range and it was spicier than it looked! The chicken was tender and had a mild heat that built up as you went along. Definitely more addicting than it looks!

Prawns diablo

The prawns were cooked to perfection and were not as spicy as the chicken but equally delicious

Paneer tikka

I’ve never had paneer cheese before so this was interesting to me. The paneer here is handmade and it did not remind me of the cheese I’m used to. It’s texture reminded me of firm tofu and unfortunately there wasn’t much flavor to it.

Steak bites

Glazed with brandy and cooked medium rare. Slightly chewy but juicy at the same time. Nat said that she liked these but the chicken was definitely the star of the show.

We weren’t sure why all the appetizers came with slices of toast because it wasn’t as though the proteins were spreadable…so we ate everything separately. Plus we felt that the bread would of dulled out the taste of the flavorfully spiced proteins.

Cheesecake

This was the thing we were waiting all night for. The house-made cheesecake was made from organic milk and topped with fresh house-made fruit jelly. I’ve never had cheesecake with homemade cheese before and you could definitely taste the milk ingredients in it. Definitely something you won’t get anywhere else!
