Hello friends! It’s been a while since I’ve been able to try a new bubble tea spot. But we finally decided that it was about time to try something new. Shiny tea is not new to me because it is a popular chain in Hong Kong too. Lil’ bun had tried something from Shiny Tea in the past and she said it was good so I decided to give it a try.
Shiny Tea menu
Shiny tea locations have a pretty uniform interior where they have red and white as their main colours of choice. Their menu is pretty simple with a variety of milk teas, brewed teas, specialty drinks and fruit teas. What I liked about their menu was that you could customize your drink. You start by choosing your favorite tea, the base and then the toppings.
Panda milk tea
I decided to go with their panda milk tea because you can’t go wrong with a classic. Plus, I wanted to try their clear and brown sugar tapioca pearls.
The brown sugar pearls were your typical run of the mill lightly sweetened chewy tapioca pearls. I expected the clear ones to be similar to sago and be soft. That’s why I was pleasantly surprised because they were actually just as chewy as the brown sugar pearls. I wasn’t sure how I felt about it in the beginning but it was actually quite enjoyable to drink because of the difference in pearl sizes.
The milk tea itself was strong and slightly bitter because I got it unsweetened. I liked that it was still prominent despite having the milk in there and it was a nice balance of flavors. Not the best I’ve had but not bad for one being made with milk powder.
Matcha tea with pearls
Grayson decided to go with the matcha tea with pearls. He liked that they had this as an option here because they rarely have it without the milk at other bubble tea cafes. Unfortunately, Grayson said that the matcha tea was very bitter and you can tell because of how dark green his drink was.
