Seto sushi

Grayson and I are always looking for Japanese owned Japanese restaurants so when we heard about Seto sushi in Richmond, we just had to give it a try.

At first we weren’t sure what to expect because the exterior didn’t scream “traditional Japanese.” But once we set foot into the restaurant, the Japanese vibes started to settle in because we were welcomed by a bamboo and water Japanese garden type thing.

Even though we didn’t go at prime dinner time, the restaurant was already packed! It would of been a 40 mins wait for a table so we opted to wait 15 mins for a seat at the bar instead. Not exactly ideal for us but it’s always nice to watch the chefs at work.

Seafood salad

I wanted to try some of their fresh seafood while having some greens so I decided to get the seafood salad. It came with arctic surf clam, baby shrimp, wakame, imitation crab, and lots of crispy lettuce. The dressing it came with was a sesame based one. I wasn’t a fan of the lack of sashimi in the bowl but it was fresh so I guess that made it pass-able?

Ozachuze

Next we got the ozachuze which is where you pour green tea over rice to eat it. I love this dish and I always got it whenever it was available in Japan. Grayson on the other hand never had it before so we ordered it to share.

You’re given an option to choose between getting a ume, wakame or salmon version of it for the same price. We went with the salmon because it seemed to be the most worth it out of the three options.

Grayson was surprised as to how well everything paired together. I was glad he liked it because I wasn’t sure if he would since he doesn’t like the texture of congee and I was worried that he would think that this would be similar since it’s rice soaked in tea.

Beef yakisoba

Last but not least, Grayson wanted a beef yakisoba to round off our meal. This was unlike any yakisoba he’s had before since the noodles were narrower and it wasn’t overly sauce heavy either.
