One of my friends recommended trying Samsoonie in Richmond because she said that the portions were quite large and the food was pretty good too!
I’m usually the one making recommendations to my friends since I’m the “designated foodie” so it was nice to give up that role for once and try a place that I’ve never heard of before!
Samsoonie was a little hard for us to find because it was hidden away at the back of a complex on Westminister Highway. So I guess you can call it a “hole in the wall” type of restaurant. I’m super glad that we found and tried this place though because it was such a great find!
Samsoonie menu
Banchan
We were disappointed that there was only two options here since usually there’s at least 4 varieties at most Korean restaurants! The kimchi wasn’t very fermented either because the greens tasted really raw and not much flavor besides that
Seafood tofu soup
I usually go with the seafood soup so how could I not try the one here? It was spicy enough to satisfy my inkling for heat and had loads of seafood inside. The only bad thing was that even though it was a seafood soup, there wasn’t much seafood in there besides a few scarce pieces of shrimp and mixed frozen seafood. Lots of tofu though!
Chicken cutlet meal
When this came to the table Grayson very confidently said that he could totally finish everything because it was “so small” then about half way through he felt defeated already because there was actually a lot on his plate! I mean it came with TWO chicken cutlets, fries, coleslaw, rice and even a miso soup! Definitely worth the value!
Summary
Would I come back?
Definitely! Big portions and yummy food!
