Hello! Poke and ramen have been my favs lately so it’s only right for me to (finally) get around to posting about Oki poke and ramen! This is not to be confused with Pokey Okey that I went to last week.

Oki poke and ramen food

Oki poke and ramen is located in New York near Grand Central Station. We went at around 6pm on a week day and it was pretty quiet on the inside. Although their entrance was narrow, the space on the interior was actually had quite a bit of seating.

Their menu was pretty simple. They had DIY poke bowls and a few ramen options. What I liked about their menu was that they gave you a paper slip for you to write on so it’s easier for you to tell your server about any customizations you want to make to your meal. This ensures that you get exactly what you want! I also liked that they had vegan/vegetarian options.

We decided to get a ramen with tonkotsu broth and one with chicken broth.

Oki ramen

Tonkotsu ramen

The ramen with the tonkotsu broth came with two slices of fatty chashu pork, wood ear mushrooms, seaweed, bamboo shoots, corn, ramen egg and green onions. The noodles were thin but remained chewy which usually doesn’t happen but I’m glad that it did because chewy ramen noodles are the best! The broth was rich and creamy with the perfect amount of saltiness.

Tokyo chicken ramen

The Tokyo Chicken Ramen was a nice change to your typical ramen with pork. It had chicken chashu, bamboo shoots, corn, green onions, ramen egg, wood ear mushroom, and seaweed. The broth had a was clear with a hint of shoyu flavor. We liked that it wasn’t has rich as the tonkotsu broth because it was nice to have something lighter as well. The chicken meat was tender and the ramen egg was still gooey on the inside which is always a good sign.

Tofu poke

Mother deer and I decided to both get poke bowls. I wanted one because I wanted something cold and she just never had one before! My favourite part about the poke bowls here was that they had so many protein options to choose from! They had chicken, tofu, scallop, red tuna, salmon, shrimp, seared tuna, spicy salmon and spicy tuna! A lot of their options were also organic which was a definite plus for us!

What I think makes poke so amazing is that not only do you get to choose your proteins but you can choose your flavours and toppings too! They had a good variety of flavor options here including sweet, salty, and spicy sauces!

I decided to go with a mix of lemongrass and spicy ginger. I liked the warm spices in these sauces and it gave the poke bowl warmth even though it was a cold dish. Mother deer decided to go with the House Ponzu. She said it was tart but tangy at the same time which was a nice combination. It may have been her first poke bowl experience, but she was ready for more!
