Grayson and I ended up at Love for Pho because we were going to go to Happy Lemon next door for tea but wanted something to eat after our workout as well. We were both skeptical going into Love for Pho because it wasn’t very busy when we walked in but we figured you couldn’t go too wrong with rice noodles or rice so it should be okay right?
The first alarm bell went off when I asked the server to steam the bean sprouts. When I asked for this, he said that they were already steamed but I could clearly see that they weren’t.
When I mentioned this he just said that they were steamed but the water wasn’t boiling….uhh doesn’t this mean that it wasn’t hot enough to actually get them steamed then? Anyway, as I thought, they were raw and I wasn’t very happy about that. Grayson said that’s probably the hangry me talking but come on…how hard is it to steam bean sprouts!
Seafood pho
I decided to get the seafood pho but for some reason there was also pieces of pork and beef in it. The broth was also very oily and didn’t have much flavour to it. The fried prawn cake situation on top was nice though because I’ve never seen it before but overall, I wasn’t very impressed with the proteins in it. The rice noodles were on the softer side and fell apart as I was eating it. For $8 a bowl, I expected more especially since there are so many other pho places in the area.
Lemongrass chicken with egg
Grayson got the lemongrass chicken with egg. It also came with a bowl of soup but he didn’t think it was very impressive. He was however, impressed that they were two eggs on the plate instead of one and the chicken was grilled very well too. Grayson doesn’t usually use fish sauce with his broken rice dishes but he liked using it with this one since it complimented all the flavors so unlike me, he was a fan of his meal (albeit it was smaller on the portion side).
