Ki tea house

Hello friends! Ki tea house is a cafe that I went to quite often years ago but we haven’t been back in a while. Grayson has been loving Ki tea house lately and has been going with friends so we decided to give them a visit together!

The interior of Ki tea house had a clean fresh look to it with lots of manga art, and figurines. They even had a little bookshelf stocked with manga for you to read while you’re having tea! I also liked that they had a tea wall with all sorts of tea for you to smell and potentially buy to take home with you (:

Ki tea house’s unique theme

Ki tea house is a Japanese and Taiwanese cafe located close to Royal Oak station. They offer a variety of bubble tea drinks, Japanese pastries, sandwiches and dessert waffles.

If you don’t have any school work to catch up on, no worries because they have an entire library of manga books for you to read if you do so choose. They also host events here every once in a while to celebrate Japanese culture.

Roasted milk tea with pearls

I decided to get the the roasted oolong milk tea with pearls. It was made with milk powder which wasn’t idea for me because I prefer real milk. It would have been great if the cafe offered milk alternatives as well. The tea flavour was strong but not to the point where it was bitter. It was a little milkier than I would have typically liked though. I’ve had this drink hot before and I preferred it much more than the cold version.

Earl grey milk tea

The only drink that Grayson gets from Ki is their earl grey milk tea. The way they make it here is similar to a latte where they steep the tea and then top it off with milk foam. He says that he likes that they make it this way because he’s guaranteed they use real milk. This is where Grayson discovered milk foam for the first time and it made him look at lattes in a whole new light!

Matcha latte

I decided to get a regular matcha latte with almond milk ($3.50) because I didn’t feel like having anything sweet. The latte foam was really velvety and smooth which is always good. I mean that’s how you know your milk was steamed well. Speaking of milk, I was surprised to learn that I could get milk alternatives here for no extra cost! That was a total selling point for me too because who likes paying extra for essentially the same drink? I would of liked it even MORE if there was a tad more matcha powder in there but that’s just me and my matcha love speaking.

Strawberry waffles

Raven decided to get their opening promotion deal and got a waffle and bubble tea for $7. What a steal right? Anyways, she chose to get the lychee green tea with pearls but they ended up forgetting to add the pearls in her drink ): Normally she would of went up to get her drink fixed but she didn’t feel like making the trip back up to the counter because she was getting hungry and just wanted to dive into her waffles.

The strawberry waffles came up with a giant scoop of vanilla ice-cream in the middle, a light drizzle of strawberry syrup on top and a few clusters of fresh strawberry slices along the sides. The waffles themselves probably had a bit of strawberry syrup in there was well because they turned out pink! And although the waffles tasted delicious, we can’t say that we were big fans of it because they weren’t cooked enough to be crispy on the outside! Which was really disappointing because the exterior texture of waffles is what makes or breaks a waffle! At least that’s how it we see it. Plus because it wasn’t crispy, the waffle ended up being really soggy from the melting ice cream.
